Spiritual First Aid: Triple Threat Cleansing, Uncrossing, and Protection Service - Sts. Benedict, Dymphna, and Michael - Cast Off Evil, Remove Crossed Conditions
Together, St. Benedict, St. Michael, and St. Dymphna make a very effective defense team from a myriad of evils, be they spiritual or physical, internal or external, known or unknown.
St. Benedict is Catholicism's exorcist par excellence, invoked for protection, driving away evil, and dodging the snares of the wily serpent, with the power to banish Satan himself in the name of God. He is the patron saint against poisoning, and he's called on by those who need help living in right relationship with others, with God, with themselves, and/or with the world.
His traditional holy medal is recognizable by its highly unusual design and symbolism.
Among a host of other emblems and initialisms on it are the letters "VRS," which stands for "vade retro, Satana," or "get back, Satan." In folk practice, however, it's often used against less specific, even unknown evils, including human ones. So St. Benedict is invoked as an ally even when the "devils" in question don't have brimstone breath.
St. Dymphna is a very popular saint to call on against madness, anxiety, depression, and epilepsy. She’s also the patron saint of runaways and survivors of incest and sexual abuse. She is petitioned by those who suffer from mental illness and by those who treat and care for the sufferers of mental illness.
Epileptics, the insane, and the possessed have been said to receive miraculous cures at Dymphna’s tomb, and in older literature and art especially, she’s portrayed as vanquishing a demon at her feet and is given the title of Demon Slayer. You can’t tell it from modern holy cards these days, but Dymphna is kind of a badass.
Last but not least, of course, St. Michael the Archangel is a guardian of the church, protector of the faithful, advocate of the innocent, battle commander of the angels, adversary of Satan, escort of blessed souls, instrument of divine justice, and the most formidable warrior of heaven.
Between the three of them, they pretty much cover all the bases. And they are not the types to get hung up on minutiae or hold you to elaborate or untenable expectations - you always want to keep your promises with saints, of course, but St. Michael isn't going to smite you if all you can afford is a small, plain candle, St. Benedict isn't going to refuse to work with you if you don't know how to pray the rosary, and St. Dymphna doesn't care if you haven't been to confession in a few years (or ever).
This light setting service would be suitable for situations including these:
- removing crossed conditions and unnatural blockages
- protection from harmful people and/or influences for yourself or a loved one, such as a child who has fallen in with a bad crowd and needs someone watching their back spiritually while they find the maturity and wherewithal to make more appropriate choices
- overcoming inertia, negative thinking, or bad habits that are holding you back
- breaking free from cycles of self-doubt, fear, substance abuse, or procrastination
- overcoming self-created or self-perpetuated blockages
- protecting your energy and integrity in a hostile environment
- dealing with anxiety or depression
- dealing with a stressful or dangerous workplace
- recovery from trauma
- protection from malefic magic, hexing, the evil eye, or spiritual assault
- breaking generational curses and healing ancestral trauma
- "madness" or "insanity" caused by being forced to spend extended periods of time around people who are unstable, malicious, narcissistic, drama junkies, vortices of chaos, psychic vampires, manipulators, or energy leeches
Contraindications/Caveats
None of this is medical treatment, and no recommendations should be construed as medical advice or used in place of medical treatment or advice.
You must participate. These saints can be powerful allies as you strive to overcome blockages and setbacks in your life, recover from trauma or crisis, and/or reorient yourself to a positive and healthy direction informed by conscious, deliberate choices. But the old adage about "helping those who help themselves" comes into play here - don't expect them to do *all* the work. You must be willing to put in the effort and the faith -- even when you don't feel like it, or you're in crisis mode, or you have to pray for faith. If you aren't going to follow through on recommendations, you'll probably just be wasting your money and my time on this service.
Just to give some examples, recommendations might involve things like a small donation or offering to a particular type of charity (it will never be me or one I oversee!); a small act of sacrifice for a certain period of time (e.g., abstaining from alcohol for three days in a row or chocolate on a certain day of the month); making space in your home for a quiet place to pray or meditate with small image or candle (even if you have to put them away at the conclusion of your prayer, or if the place can't be quiet all the time); taking a series of spiritual baths on a set schedule; and/or writing down some thoughts, fears, and/or hopes.
I understand that life sometimes involves limitations. If you have a living situation, health condition, or anything else that could impact your ability to follow any recommendations, please do let me know in your intake form so I can customize your recommendations and we can find workarounds where necessary.
How it Works
After you check out, I'll review your intake form and petition to make sure I understand the names of any people involved, grasp your general situation, and can open and print any photos you want me to use. I'll contact you if there are any problems. Once I have everything I need, I will fix, dress, set, and burn three customized glass-encased vigil lights for you, simultaneously, with appropriate offerings and daily prayers during the course of the service (approximately a week).
Upon completion, I will send you a report of the work, including analysis of the candles, recommendations for actions you should undertake, and a selection of materials with guidelines for their usage. Exactly what the materials are will depend on your situation, but typically, this will include:
- some recommended prayers
- one or more images or wallet-sized prayer cards
- a medal, charm, or pendant
- a mixture of herbs and minerals you can use to make several spiritual baths or hand washes (with instructions)
- a taper candle
- a bottle of spiritual oil (with instructions)
Limits of Scope and Divination
Please try your best to send a petition of one or two complete sentences. This can be very difficult if you feel like your life is on fire and all these interconnected things affect all of these other things and you aren't even sure where to start. In that case, I suggest writing out everything you want me to know, in as chaotic a format as necessary, if necessary, to do your initial articulation, and then after you've done that, write down the one- or two-sentence "bottom line" or "boiled down summary" of what you're trying to achieve here.
If you need help crafting a good petition in the hoodoo tradition, see this article (also available via the Education tab up top).

This service does not guarantee a delivery date for materials/reports.
