Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez Oil
Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez was a Venezuelan physician noted for both his medical skills and his charity in treating the poor without charge. He is commonly called the doctor of the poor.
After his death in 1919, he quickly became a folk saint and achieved immense popularity within and beyond the borders of Venezuela. The Catholic Church began the often long and drawn-out process of formally recognizing him as an official saint in 1949. The Venerable Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez was beatified - the final step before canonization towards official sainthood - in 2020 due to miracles of healing attributed to him since then, so his technical title is now the Blessed Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez. (Many folks just call him Jose Gregorio, though.)
He is seen as a spiritual assistant to doctors and as a patron of those whose poverty makes it difficult for them to obtain medical treatment. He's a wonderful ally for those having trouble getting a correct diagnosis and who need their physicians to be blessed with perception and insight to accurately diagnose and treat their illnesses. He's also helpful in breaking through red tape for those who need a referral to, or authorization from, a specialist in order to obtain the treatment they need.
Wallet-sized holy cards are also available.
HANDLING TIMES: Please note published handling times, which start at 5 business days and will be longer for custom-finished items and large orders. Why? Two reasons:
One, I make all my formulas in tiny batches, only decanting your oil order from the mother bottle and adding herbs and prayers after your order's come in, for instance. The payoff for your patience is that you get fresh blends and fresh products, made by hand the old fashioned way, by a traditional rootworker with 35 years of experience.
Two, I live in the middle of nowhere and I have to expect time-sucking delays as par for the course, like the internet going down 'cause a cow broke the line, stuff like that.
USAGE: Oils are for prayer and ritual use; they are not cosmetics or perfumes. While some customers do use some dressing oils as anointing oils (which is not the same thing as wearing a perfume or cologne), they are careful to do a skin test first, since they know that all-natural does not equal hypoallergenic. If you need suggestions on how to use condition and anointing oils in the conjure tradition, see the Education link up top.
LEGALESE: As required by law, all items are sold as curios and/or for educational purposes in the study of folklore and popular religion. I use these items myself though - I don't sell anything I haven't used myself - and quite a few customers over the years have sworn by my traditional formulas since I started selling them in 2002.
