Blessed Mother Pocket Shrine with Sacred Heart Tinwork
Mixed media: repurposed post-consumer tinplate box, resin, dried botanicals, wax, glass, paper, satin, silk, aluminum, enamel paint, and ink,
High-relief milagro-style sacred heart on the shrine cover/lid is handcut/hammered, painted in bright colors, and sealed for durability. It's surrounded by satin ribbon embellishing the outside of the shrine.
After filing and sanding sharp corners and edges, I embellish these altar ornaments from my stash of vintage, antique, distressed, and/or reclaimed fabrics, metals, beads, trims, and sacramentals. This piece features faux pearls, hand-sewn gold-embellished scarlet silk ribbon, a vintage Mother of Sorrows Crusade medal imported from Belgium (mercy, divine intervention, safe travel), dried milkweed flowers (protective of home and family relationships), and a delicate resin portrait of the Virgin Mary and her Immaculate Heart.
Shrine measures about 2.5" long and 1.5" wide when closed, with a height of about 0.75".
Folks use these as altar or household art, Christmas tree ornaments, gifts, and sometimes even jewelry (though this particular piece is too large to wear). I love to do custom work, so message me if you have an idea for a variation you'd like to see.
While this and all my tinplate work is filed/sanded carefully to remove sharp protrusions and corners, you should still keep in mind what it's made of and thus keep it away from children or pets.
As with all my spiritual art and jewelry, I'm happy to include your petitions/intentions associated with it in my prayers and bless the piece for you as I'm preparing it to ship to its new home. Just use the note section that will be visible during checkout to give me any customization info you'd like me to have.
